Gas Prices and the End of “Hope”

Is it too late to blame Bush?

For the American Spectator, William Tucker writes that skyrocketing gas prices will be the first issue President Obama can’t attempt to blame on President Bush.

Ehh, I still think he’ll try somehow. Or at least blame Republicans in general. Or maybe the Abominable Snowman.

But the act is finally growing old. American people are about the bottom line. Even though President Obama is the king of political Hot Potato, he won’t be able to put the spin on household-budget-crippling gas prices.

President Obama owns this problem. It’s got “I pander to my environmental base” written all over it. It also doesn’t help his cause that Energy Secretary Steven Chu said that we need to figure out a way to “boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

Even union workers need to put gas in their cars to get to work. We’ll see how they vote if they are spending over $100 every time they go to fill up their trucks.
