Rejuvenating the Party of Frederick Douglas, MLK

‘Time to turn values into votes’

A group of African Americans called the Frederick Douglas party is working to rejuvenate the Republican Party—and to help blacks, Hispanics, and others realize that the principles of freedom, faith, and free enterprise will make them better off.

The movement’s leader, K. Carl Smith, says the goal is to help people understand in a non-condescending way that they are not voting their values when they vote for the party of President Barack Obama—a party that is working feverishly to get more and more Americans dependent on government.

“I want to keep more of the money I make so I can provide for my family,” says Smith. “I don’t want slavemaster entitlements.”

Frederick Douglas, who called the GOP the “party of freedom and progress” would agree. In his writings and his speeches, he encouraged his fellow liberated blacks to work hard, to educate their children, to keep families strong, and to stay true to their faith.

“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them,” Douglas once said.
