He’s more akin with Thomas Aquinas, so stop saying he is obsessed with Ayn Rand!
Some have been criticizing Paul Ryan for his affinity for Ayn Rand, alleging that he, like her, wants a world run by cold, calculating reason devoid of faith. But, via National Review’s Robert Costa, here’s what Ryan has to say about her:
“I reject her philosophy. It’s an atheist philosophy. It reduces human interactions down to mere contracts and it is antithetical to my worldview. If somebody is going to try to paste a person’s view on epistemology to me, then give me Thomas Aquinas,” who believed that man needs divine help in the pursuit of knowledge.”
If you take a serious look at Ryan’s budget, you’ll find a lot Rand would disagree with. He actually wants to strengthen the “social safety net,” including Medicare. You could argue that by having the courage to say that Medicare is in shambles he is actually more serious about saving it than those who simply say, “don’t touch it!”
