Stars and Stripes Dinner to Honor Actor Gary Sinise, a Hero to Many

On November 20, Foster Friess will be hosting the second annual Stars and Stripes Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the Joe Foss Institute will honor actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise.

Sinise, who is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump and as Detective Mac Taylor on CSI: New York, is involved in numerous charities and patriotic causes. Gary lent his voice to U.S. Army recruitment ads, serves as the national spokesperson for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, and co-founded the charity Operation International Children. He also performs regularly for the troops with his band, the aptly named Lt. Dan Band.

I grew up in Scottsdale Arizona (1958 to present). My parents were from Montana with humble beginnings. Dad started a small real estate company in a converted carport and his first partner worked on the pull out writing board. Dad’s first big sale was to Joe and Didi Foss. As a young man, Joe took me/us under his wing and through our mutual relationships, in small-town Scottsdale, Joe also found Jesus and his true voice. My father, Joe Foss and a rare few other men have been the mentors and architects of anything redeeming in my life and walk with Christ. Joe was my friend and like another dad to me. I know that Friess family also have a special place for the Foss’. Honorable, faithful and courages folks all have a way of finding each other. Godspeed and Blessings, Mark Moerkerke
