A Goodbye to Last Member of World War I Allies

Florence Green of the Women Royal Air Force dies at age 110

She might not be American, and she might have served up food instead of grenades, but Florence Green deserves some recognition over here in the USA.

She lived to be 110, but so much of her generation was dead before they saw 20. She was our last breathing connection to the idea of a “war to end all wars.”

As we look at headlines and see threats looming from every corner of the globe, the idea of ever seeing an end to war seems hopelessly naïve.  But even more naïve is the unfortunate belief  that we can achieve a peaceful world by weakening our military and acquiescing to those who doubt that freedom is worth fighting for.
