$99,000 raised by 13 year old from Winters’ home town
Jordan Brown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, wanted to honor the heroism of Dick Winters, the commander of the 101st Airborne’s Easy Company and the main figure of HBO’s Band of Brothers.
So two years ago, when he was just 11 years old, Jordan started raising money by selling bracelets inscribed with “Hang Tough,” Winters’ motto. He managed to raise $99,000 for the $250,000 statue.
The statue was unveiled today, this 68th anniversary of D-Day, along the coast of Normandy, where 86,000 American troops embarked upon the greatest offensive the cause of freedom has ever seen.
