At least they got one thing right
The Stolen Valor law, on the books since 2006, made it a crime to lie about serving in the military or falsely claim to have received military awards. But the Supreme Court voted “6-3 Thursday in favor of Xavier Alvarez, a former local elected official in California who falsely claimed he was a decorated war veteran.”—CBS NEWS
Such a law is a violation of the First Amendment. In this country, unless you are causing harm to others, you have the right to lie. I can go out in Times Square and tell everyone I am the Easter Bunny if I so choose. To uphold such a law would have been in contrast to the freedoms which the real servicemen have fought and died for since 1775.
Besides, valor cannot be stolen. Honor cannot be taken away. It lives within the soul, and that is a place that neither an idiotic charlatan like Xaviar Alvarez or Barack Obama’s government could ever touch.
