It’s hard to do worse than get absolutely no votes in Congress—which is what happened with the president’s budget
President Obama trusted Erskine Bowles, who served as President Clinton’s chief of staff, with the co-chairmanship of his budget commission. And Bowles has described Paul Ryan’s budget as “sensible, straightforward, honest.”
Bowles—Obama’s budget guy and Bill Clinton’s chief of staff—called Paul Ryan’s budget serious. Even President Obama and his Health and Human Services Secretary both called Ryan’s budget serious.
What did Congress think of President Obama’s budget?
In May, the senate voted 97-0—repeat: 97-0—against the president’s budget.
Oh, and in April, the U.S. House voted down the president’s budget 414-0.
