Promoting Education Reform… via school choice, charter schools, and innovative private sector solutions

“[S]chool choice [is] as a catalyst for education reform in general and a way to empower parents to be education reformers.” --The late John T. Walton, a tireless advocate of school choice, to whom this page is dedicated

At FosterFriess.com, we will highlight problems with America’s educational status quo, and we will promote those seeking private sector solutions to bring high quality education to as many Americans as possible.

Texas Teacher Has Students Dress up in Burqas…

State Sen. Dan Patrick told Fox News he is very disturbed by a Facebook photograph posted by one of the students in a world geography class at Lumberton High School, which showed them in Islamic garb. He also is investigating reports that the students were forced to write an essay based on an article in The Washington Post that blamed Egypt’s turmoil on democracy rather than the Muslim Brotherhood…

The school district released a statement to Fox News defending the class: “The lesson that was offered focused on exposing students to world cultures, religions, customs and belief systems. The lesson is not teaching a specific religion, and the students volunteered to wear the clothing.” Washington Times

I understand the necessity behind playing devil’s advocate every once in a while but implementing Shariah law in an American classroom seems like its crossing a few lines. Every time a kindergarten class sings “Silent Night” someone files a lawsuit, yet this school district is standing behind a teacher that tells kids to refer to known terrorists are “freedom fighters?” Something doesn’t add up.

And this is Texas?! Texas! I thought I could count on them. I’m up here in New York surrounded by Northeast elitist liberals, with my best hope for America’s future being the great Lone Star State. Clean it up guys, seriously. You’re supposed to be the most American state in America. No more forced burqas in class, please.
